Chatta (チャッタ) is an interactive toy by TOMY, resembling a talking creature that
pops out of a tin of confectionary. It was released in 2004, and it retailed for 4,990 yen in Japan.
It uses three C batteries.

Appearance

Chatta somewhat resembles a sock puppet but with a round head. It has a pair of arms with three
fingers on each hand. It has two small dark blue eyes, a red tongue in its mouth, and the inside of
the puppet's mouth is also dark blue. Chatta pops out of a tin which has a gray lid and handle, a picture
of an open tin with sweets or biscuits in it, and a logo which reads "UPNZ". Each tin has a list of
ingredients on the back. The speaker is located where the tin's barcode is.

Versions

Chatta may come in three color variations, including pink, blue,
or yellow, and each version has a name.

Chatta Candy

The pink version of Chatta, known as Chatta Candy (チャッタキャンディ), has a male voice,
and images of lollipops on his tin. Candy was voiced by Koichi Yamadera according to an Amazon listing.

Chatta Cookie

The blue chatta is known as Chatta Cookie (チャッタクッキー).
Cookie also has a male voice, pictures of cookies on his tin, and is also
said to have the same voice actor.

Chatta Chocolate

The yellow version of Chatta is known as Chatta Chocolate (チャッタチョコ).
Chocolate has a female voice, pictures of chocolates on her tin, holds a red chocolate in her hands, and
is said to have been voiced by Mami Koyama.

Functions

The toy is advertised as having 250 talk patterns. It can move its eyes down and back
into position, open and close its mouth while speaking, and its body appears to move a bit
while speaking. Chatta has a light sensor and will respond when it gets dark, can be set to
different play modes, and can speak to you while popping out of its tin partially or fully. You
can knock on Chatta's tin to get him to speak to you, or he may pop out of it by himself sometimes.
Knocking a certain number of times will get Chatta to do different things.

Trivia

• Chatta comes with a sticker telling you how many times
  to knock for certain features (the toy also has a manual).
• Though the toy doesn't appear to have feet or a tail, illustrations of Chatta
  on the official website and box show Chatta with a round tail and pair of feet.
