"hood me please" is a mistake in the manual. It's meant to be "hug me please".

Baby Brainy

Baby Brainy is a knockoff Furby from 1999 which you could purchase from Smart Planet, for a retail price of $19.99.

Copyright registration for a misspelled version of the toy's name was made on the 17th of March, 1999, and the date of publication for the copyright was the 30th of September, 1998. The misspelling was: "Baby Briany".

The copyright claimant's name is Nien-chu Tang, the same claimant for Furbish's copyright. There's a chance he invented Furbish and Baby Brainy, but this is unconfirmed.

Story

Includes typos and all, from the manual:

Hi, I am Baby Brainy and I come from a magical place in the clouds -- Happy Planet. Happy Planet is a fun place full of fury guys like me. We are so happy living in the Happy planet. The weather in our planet is cold but we have long long fur to protect the icy cold. Not for a long time ago, our planet was drifted from the universal and marching toward Sun. It was getting so hot that we had to escape from our Planet and moved to the nearest planet -- Earth. All my family members are gone and I miss everyone of them very much. I am hoping friends in Earth would help me to find my families and a place for me to live.

Appearance

The creature resembles a teddy bear version of a Furby. It has a yellow, pointed beak with a bear nose painted on, white eyelids, a flocked faceplate, and the shape of a heart on the clear plastic covering its IR port. It also has teddy bear arms and legs, and round ears.

Baby Brainy can come in brown, white, or pink. A bee version of it also exists.

Bee Version

While the first image was from an eBay listing, the other photos below were taken and originally posted by Cute Furby, who also recorded video footage of it.

The bee version is yellow with gold, shiny wings and black stripes on its body. It has two, yellow feet, gold pipecleaner antennae with yellow pompoms that are decorated with gold sparkles, and a white tummy area. It has no arms, ears, or legs. Instead of wiggling its ears, it moves its wings up and down.

There are only two pictured on this page, but one of them has a Furby base for some reason. There's a chance the base was taken and used from an actual Furby, if it had to be repaired at some point.

No photos of the box or manual for it have been found, strangely.

Box Prototypes

The brown one has a faceplate that lacks ridges where the eyes and beak are, and it has a hole for the light sensor to be exposed. The brown one is a much lighter shade than the released one, and it uses a dark shade of brown for the lower half of its body. Its beak looks like the one used for the final toy.

The pink and white ones appear to have a smaller nose, but the faceplate looks more like the one used for the final version of the toy. The pink one appears to have blue eyes.

There are two versions of the bear Baby Brainy which are speculated to be prototypes. Their faceplates are similar to the one the brown prototype featured on the box has.

Baby Brainy with Rounded Beak

In addition to the rounded beak, it has a larger faceplate and the faceplate is missing the outline around the beak and eyes. The faceplate has a hole for the light sensor. In the photos above, the light sensor doesn't have a plastic cover. I don't know if it initially had one, but it doesn't look like it?

This is from an eBay listing, and I've never seen another exactly like this.

Japanese-Speaking Baby Brainy

The beak appears to have been chipped at some point, but like the white one mentioned before, this one has a large faceplate with a hole for its light sensor, but its faceplate appears to have been painted yellow. The material for the faceplate also looks different (?).

Functions

Most info came from the manual. I don't know how accurate the manual is, since it's like a copy of the Furby manual.

Baby Brainy speaks Furdish, like many knockoff Furbys, but the manual refers to it as "Baby Brainy".

Once you insert the batteries, Baby Brainy will tell you their name. You might also hear it when you pet their back or play games with them.

Baby Brainy can be fed, responds to being tilted, having their light sensor covered, and loud sounds. They can communicate with other Baby Brainys, Furbys, Furby friends that talk to Furbys, and other Furdish-speaking knockoffs. To get them to communicate with another friend, activate one of your Baby Brainy's sensors, such as its tickle or pet sensor, while it is near one or more of them, and they should start communicating.

Baby Brainy Says

Touch their tummy or back for two seconds. Baby Brainy will tell you what to do in their language, and will expect you to obey. If you have done something correctly they will say "whoopie". Some examples include:

Putting Baby Brainy to Sleep

You can leave Baby Brainy alone, or cover its eyes for 10-15 seconds, and it should fall asleep. You can also get it to sleep by petting it between 10-20 times

Ask Baby Brainy

Speak loudly to Baby Brainy, rub its back for 2 seconds, and it will say "whoopie". Ask Baby Brainy a question and pet its back to receive a response. If you don't end up petting Baby Brainy, it will say "one one" ("I do not want to play"), thinking you don't want to play with it.

Hide and Seek

This involves getting another person to hide Baby Brainy somewhere, so you can find them. They may start making noises to help you find them.

Before you or someone else hides Baby Brainy, uncover and cover Baby Brainy's eyes four times, and Baby Brainy will say "whoopie", to let you know they are ready to be hidden.

Baby Brainy waits for 3 minutes to be found; if you don't find them in 3 minutes, they won't be happy (and apparently they get sick?).

According to the manual, to see Baby Brainy repeat a game, press their tummy for 2 seconds.
