Dancing Popper

Dancing Popper is an animated toy sold by various companies. It might have originally been created by Ningbo Keerdeng Toys, which has other "non-falling down" toys on their website. It requires three AA batteries.

In Japan, it was sold as Otobokei African Penguin (おとぼ系 アフリカペンギン) by U-Mate, a company which was eventually renamed to Takara TOMY Arts (info from myfigurecollection.net), and it was sold as "Dancing Popper" by ABL Innovation and Animated Novelties Corp.

Appearance

Despite the name U-Mate sold it with, it looks like an emperor penguin.

Popper has orange feet, a white tummy area, and black eyes. He has a patch of bright yellow below his face above his tummy area, and a patch of yellow on the left and right sides of his head. His wings are black, with the underside of each wing being white. His head is black, but his back and the left and right sides of the penguin can either be gray or black.

Despite there being an image of a black Popper next to an ABL version of the box, ABL is only known to have sold Popper in gray, while Animated Novelties Corp. and U-Mate have sold Popper in black.

Is it just the fur or does it look like Popper has an eyelid in the above image, when Popper doesn't have eyelids in other photos I've seen?? The image is in low quality, so I don't know if it was edited.

Functions

Popper leans from left to right, moves across surfaces on wheels while playing a melody, and makes penguin sounds. He has three modes: On, Off, and a sound-activated mode. When switched to "On", he will move about continuously until the music stops. In sound-activated mode, he will start moving while playing music each time you clap your hands. If he arrives near the edge of a surface such as a table, he should move away from it instead of falling off. The box for the ABL version of Popper mentions the toy plays three tunes, but the boxes for the other two versions don't seem to mention this.
