Caterpillar

Caterpillar is a generic name given to an animated bump and go toy from Feng Sheng.

There's a chance Feng Sheng knew about Leapfrog's Alphabet Pal caterpillar toy and was inspired to make this toy (especially since this toy looks like it's from the 2000s), but the Alphabet Pal caterpillars look drastically different from this, so I wouldn't accuse them of plagiarizing them. But, this toy likely plays a copyrighted song that the company didn't have permission to use.

Appearance

The toy resembles a caterpillar with cartoonish blue eyes, a white round nose, red cheeks, and a smile. It has a pair of springy tentacles on its head and back and a total of eight legs. Its tentacles have rounded tips.

Two colorways exist, including a green one and a yellow one.

The green version has a blue bowtie on its chest, eight red spots on its body that each have a silver outline and yellow legs with red sneakers. The top of the tentacles on its head are partly made of translucent red plastic and opaque yellow plastic, and the top of the tentacles on its back are partly made of translucent dark blue plastic and opaque yellow plastic.

The yellow version has a red bowtie, green legs with red sneakers, and eight green spots on its body outlined in silver. The top of the tentacles on its head are partly made of translucent dark blue plastic and opaque dark green plastic, while the tentacles on its back are partly made of translucent red plastic and the same green plastic.

Oddly, a photo of a green one was found with eyelashes painted on, while in two other photos on this page these caterpillars aren't shown with eyelashes. Maybe only some have eyelashes??

Functions

It moves on bump and go wheels while playing a song, wiggling its legs, turning its head, and blinking its eyes. Its tentacles have lights which flash. It's possible it has a moving mouth, but I'm uncertain.
