Rocky The Talking
Teaching Robot

Rocky The Talking Teaching Robot is an interactive, educational toy sold by Playwell. There is a version of the box where an unidentified company's logo on the front. This odd version appears to have been listed on the EP Toys website (a wholesale website) in 2004, but a version sold by RadioShack mentions "2002" in the manual.

The toy requires four AA batteries. A Brazilian version was sold by Gulliver Toys, and a Spanish version exists, but the company that sold it is unknown.

Radioshack sold Rocky as "Learn 'N' Fun Robot".

Appearance

Playwell's Rocky has a dark blue head, a yellow face with translucent, yellow eyes and a smile, and a pair of dark blue wheels to move about on (the other version of Rocky has orange, translucent eyes). He has yellow arms and claws, and the front and back of his body are red. He has a large, dark blue panel with an assortment of colorful buttons in different shapes with a number painted on each one, except for the last button, which has a musical note painted on.

Playwell's version of Rocky has three buttons on top of his head you can press to make him move about on wheels by himself; the version sold by the unidentified company does not have these buttons.

Playwell's version does not have bump and go wheels, but I don't know if the other company sold it with bump and go wheels or not.

Functions

His eyes each have a light that flashes when the robot speaks, and you can press any of the three buttons on top of its head to make the robot move about.

You can switch the robot to a mode where if you press the buttons on its chest, it will mention the number you pressed, or another mode where it will mention the shape of each button you press.

His arms can be raised and lowered manually, and you can twist his claws.

Other Versions

Rocky Robot

Looks like the Talking Teaching Robot version, but can come with beige arms and claws and is missing the buttons on top of his head. He also has bump and go wheels and a bootleg Fisher-Price logo on his box that says "Teaching Toys". The eyes can either be orange or yellow.

Rocky Robot (Again)

Based on Dizini and Tao from Kartrider. They have a human face and a robotic body and pair of arms, and the company they're from is unknown. They have an orange light on the left and right sides of their head, and their face is completely painted-on.

Teaching Robot

Also based on Dizini and Tao, and they still resemble robots with human faces. They have different faces this time.

They still have lights on the sides of their head, but Dizini has green light covers on the sides of her head, and a red body and head. Tao has a blue head and a green body.

Robot Intelligent

Sold by Sunlike. Has two shades of light blue instead of a red and blue color scheme. There is a Brazillian version that was apparently sold by Dican Toys as "My Robot" (Meu Robô).

The button which normally has a music note can have the words "Affirm" and "Volume" instead.

Windups (?)

Available in pink, green, or yellow. The front panel is a lid that can be opened. The lid can be clear or opaque, and these toys appear to have been sold with candy in them.

Mini Robots (Mini Robôs)

Sold by Dican in Brazil. Each robot has the head of an animal, and these toys appear to be obscure. According to the commercial, four versions exist, including a pink and purple cat, a blue dinosaur, a dalmatian, and a toucan.

The website had coloring pages for them:

"Sweet Hippo Musical" & "Sweet Bear Musical"

We've just gone from talking about robots to hippos and bears in cars.

They have the same sort of buttons as Rocky. That's the only reason for them being here.
