Baizhixing

Bootleg Yano. Never thought it would be a thing. If I'm not mistaken, the university was involved with the creation of a bootleg Poo-Chi, too.

Baizhixing (百智星) is a bionic robot created by the Harbin Institute of Technology that was revealed on the 18th of April, 2005. It has been referred to as China's first humanoid robot capable of facially expressing itself, and 7 patents for the robot were filed. It was displayed at the 7th Hi-Tech Fair in Shenzhen.

Appearance

Baizhixing resembles a human-like creature with a large nose and short, blonde hair. It has a large pair of ears that stick out, and blue eyes. It has four fingers on each hand and four toes on each foot. Some of them wear different outfits such as those listed below:

A Sina article mentions that this robot wears a small pair of glasses, but there are no photos I could find with it wearing glasses. Not sure if it was wearing a different outfit I haven't seen.

Functions

There's not much information available online about this robot.

It has been used for preschool education and it had its own website to support it. It could express anger, sorrow, and joy. It is 35 centimeters in height, and is capable of moving its limbs, head, and neck, and making different mouth shapes when expressing itself. It also has voice recognition and neural network control. He can sing nursery rhymes, speak English, play games, and recite Tang poetry.

I could be wrong here, but apparently it could also immitate its owners voice when singing, talking, and playing?

GOOD GRIEF, HE'S NAKED

A patent for the robot's design was registered by Shenzhen Roboto Intelligent Technology (深圳市诺博特智能科技有限公司), and Bao Qingshan (鲍青山) is credited as the designer. The publication date is 27/10/2004, and the application date is 9/4/2004.

Trademark

There appears to be a trademark for the robot which was applied for on the 10th of January, 2005. More details can be found here.
