I've seen articles refer to this as a robot, but I'm not sure how this counts as one.
Hopis was made by Sanyo and apparently appeared at the International Robot Exhibition in 2001. I don't know for sure if this was Sanyo's first time revealing it or if it was revealed earlier.
Hopis resembles a dog with an egg-shaped body, long floppy ears, a long tail, and a floppy pair of arms and legs. It has a smiling expression with a brown nose and a pair of cartoonish black eyes.
Hopis can have a white and blue colorway or a white and pink colorway, where the secondary color is used for the arms, legs, the top of its ears, its eyelids, hat, and the tail. The pink version wears a nurse hat with the logo, while the blue version wears a beanie.
Hopis has a heart on his tummy area with the Sanyo logo which can glow.
According to an article from LinuxInsider, Hopis consists of a speech synthesizer, a digital thermometer, a tonometer to detect eye disease, a glucose meter for diabetics, and a variety of other sensors. Hopis can ask patients questions concerning their health and transfer the information to a medical center wirelessly. Hopis can also connect to a scale or a blood pressure monitor, receive the data, and transfer it.
Hopis apparently had poor sales according to an article originally posted by Reuters (info found via cnet.com).
